Edgar Degas was born in Paris and was the oldest of six children. He was a french artist who was famous for many differnt forms of art including oil paints, however, he did many other things in his life that were not part of his artwork. At the age of 19 he graduated from Lycée Louis-le-Grand with a baccalauréat in literature and then registered at the Faculty of Law of the University of Paris. Through all this he kept working on his art. At the age of 36 he enlisted in the National Gaurd at the outbreak of the Franco-PrussianWar. After the war he went to New Orleans were a number of his relatives were but eventually returned to Paris. A year later his father died and it was revealed to Degas the his brother was in debt so he sold his home and paintings to preserve his families name. He died at the age of 83 in Paris. I picked Degas because Mrs. Dedic recommended him to me and I like his paintings.
